How I Rate Beer
  • NB(25) had a Samuel Adams Latitude 48, and would go out of my way to buy it again!447 weeks ago.

Comments NBBeautiful with a rich copper color and foamy off-white head, but also brilliant clarity. The flavor and aroma mostly live up to the appearance, with notes of biscuity, toasted malt and earthy hops with a floral nose. A hybrid UK/US IPA, maybe? Tasty.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a St. Croix Cream Ale from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, Saint Paul MN, and wouldn't even drink this if it was free.448 weeks ago.

Comments NBAbsolute garbage. I've never had a commercial beer with so many off flavors. DMS and/or diacetyl comprise the dominant flavors, with maybe a little light pleasant creaminess in the background. But bottom line, this is a bad beer. Gross.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold from MGM Liqour Warehouse, St. Paul, MN, and would go out of my way to buy it again!451 weeks ago.

Comments NBBought this on a whim, not even knowing what a Dortmunder-style lager was. I'm completely blown away. Smooth and well-balanced, with a rich, malty sweetness, medium hops, and hints of citrus and smoke. Light amber color, medium body. Excellent beer.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Grand Teton Sweetgrass India Pale Ale from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would probably buy this again.458 weeks ago.

Comments NBAn exceptionally hoppy APA, with notes of grapefruit and lemongrass. Citrus-heavy hops and light texture give it a wheat-ish feel. This beer seems stylistically confused. Something in the malt bill is turning me off, I think. Their IPA was better...Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a New Belgium Ranger IPA from mgm liqour warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would definitely buy this again.461 weeks ago.

Comments NBA highly drinkable IPA with balanced malts and an earthy hop kick. (The New Belgium website lists three different kinds of hops, but it's the Simcoe that really stands out.) Surprisingly mellow between the initial hop bite and the semi-dry finish.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Two Brothers Domaine Dupage from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would go out of my way to buy it again!461 weeks ago.

Comments NBOne of the most complex beers I've ever tasted. Malty, bready, yeasty, fruity and a bit of spiciness in there too. Only a faint hint of hops on the finish. A truly fascinating style of beer. This one is meant to be savored.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Bells Two Hearted Ale from Faces on Mears Park, and would definitely buy this again.463 weeks ago.

Comments NBCrisp bright hop aroma and flavor with a dry finish but a light and refreshing mouthfeel. Some caramel maltiness balances out the citrusy hops. Overall, an excellent IPA.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Schell Fire Brick from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would definitely buy this again.463 weeks ago.

Comments NBA Vienna lager with a smooth, burnt-toffee maltiness and enough of a hop bite to give it an interesting finish. Pleasant mouthfeel, and a little sweetness too. Definitely a kickass lager. Tempted to give this one the full five stars, but... eh.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Grand Teton Lost Continent Double IPA from St. Paul Summer Beer Festival 2010, St. Paul MN, and would go out of my way to buy it again!465 weeks ago.

Comments NBOh man, this one blew me away. An oak-aged double IPA? So, so good. Possibly my favorite from the entire beer fest. I don't think I've had a beer yet from Grand Teton that I didn't love, but this is my new favorite of theirs.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Lake Superior Sir Duluth Oatmeal Stout from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would probably buy this again.465 weeks ago.

Comments NBPours a nice deep black with a thin tan-colored head. Lacing so-so. Nice aroma of chocolate, carmel and rich, roasted malt. Coffee too. Taste is less impressive though. Thin-bodied and too sweet. Almost sour. Also under-carbonated. Overall? Meh.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Surly Furious from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would go out of my way to buy it again!466 weeks ago.

Comments NBA true classic. Gloriously hoppy (99 IBUs), but surprisingly full-bodied and rich, with a depth of character lacking in many other hopped-up IPAs. The aroma is absolutely incredible. This is as close to perfect as a beer can be.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Surly Schadenfreude from Pracna On Main, Minneapolis MN, and would go out of my way to buy it again!466 weeks ago.

Comments NBOne of the most drinkable beers I've ever had. A smooth dunkel lager with a very mild malt flavor. Rich but somehow light at the same time. Delicious.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Surly Coffee Bender from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would probably buy this again.466 weeks ago.

Comments NBFlavor is toasted malt and old coffee. Also nutty, with a hint of chocolate. Medium body, very drinkable. Low carbonation. A well-crafted beer, but a bit of a novelty, IMO. Also, more reminiscent of used coffee grounds than a fresh cup of coffee.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Founders Ales Dry Hopped Pale Ale from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would probably buy this again.466 weeks ago.

Comments NBA pretty run-of-the-mill pale ale. It's got a nice toasty maltiness with a good hope bite, but I feel like there's something missing on the finish. Seems almost overly carbonated too. Not a bad beer by any stretch, but Founders has done better.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Grand Teton Sweetgrass India Pale Ale from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would go out of my way to buy it again!467 weeks ago.

Comments NBA mild but delicious IPA. It has a kind of woodsy or grassy tinge that lingers on your palate and is also present in the aroma. Crisp piney hops with a hint of citrus carry a respectable bite, but don't kick you in the teeth. I'm digging it.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Central Waters Happy Heron Pale Ale from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would definitely buy this again.467 weeks ago.

Comments NBAn extra hoppy pale ale, with just a touch of sweetness... Overall, a satisfying beer, but maybe a little bland on balance. The extra hop kick makes up for it somewhat. Kind of an unusual pale ale somehow. Can't put my finger on why.Original Comment

  • NB(25) had a Surly Bitter Brewer from MGM Liquor Warehouse, Saint Paul, MN, and would definitely buy this again.467 weeks ago.

Comments NBA well-balanced ale with citrusy hops and a subtle maltiness. Nice rich copper color with respectable head. Crisp and very drinkable. On the downside, a little weak, bordering on watery. Not my favorite style, but nicely done overall.Original Comment
